Artifact (Mario)

Based on the activities we did as a group today in class I got a pretty good revised question for my critical question. My new question is: What is the impact of video games on youth? This question seems that its fits into all the criteria listed because I had smiley faces all over my paper. Maybe people were just being lazy or nice, but even I think it meets all the criteria. I know pretty much everyone in their youth has played some type of video game whether its some type of Mario game or call of duty either one time or another everyone has played a video game so everyone can relate. I think this question will do well with the 3 projects and I look forward to working on these projects during the next 5 weeks.

10 Potential Artifacts
·      The Character Mario
·      Noob Toobers
·      Mountain Dew
·      Sour Patch Kids
·      Columbine School shooting
·      Master Chief
·      Controller
·      Pajama Pants
·      Jurassic Park
·      Memorial Stadium

The artifact I chose to do in my first project will be the character Mario. Mario has always and will forever be my favorite video game character of all time. He’s a plumber that wears overalls and a red hat with the letter M on it. I feel like Mario is always being hated on by many people in the video game world, but the main hater of them all would have to be Bowzer. He’s always trying to steal Mario’s girl and lock her in his terrible castles. Also I feel Mario is a very misunderstood person because it seems like he is always trying to do the right things, but something always tries to stand in his way and it makes him look bad when he has to jump on their head. He’s definitetly evolved from when I first met him on the Nintendo 64 now he is a new and improved version of himself for the WiiU the newest Nintendo platform. Mario has been a big staple in my life from when I was a little boy till now. Whether he’s riding a go kart, riding Yoshi, jumping through pipes, or jumping over barrels I’ve played as him in each one of these scenarios. If you think about it Mario is a pretty good role model. I’ll hopefully get into more detail about that in my project so I won’t ruin the reason why here. Mario has been around forever it feels like and is played in most every country so Mario is a well known individual. He is pry in a lot of peoples past because of his great popularity, so many people can identify with Mario as a video game character. I think Mario will connect with my question well because he or some other video game character or even video game has impacted your youth and definetly impacts our youth today.

  1. I won't comment much on your question and artifact because we talked about htis a lot in your confrence. I think you're on a good track now. As I was reading your other posts, though, I was thnking for your secondprject it could be really cool to do a profile of a young kid who plays video games. You could spend a bunch of time with one and probably get some really cool observations. If you decide to do this, remind me I have a really good model text that could help you with this kind of writing.
